OK, that’s not true. I made it up. I’m a writer.
And I can’t blame my disappearance on aliens. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to. But that’s fiction.
Wait. I write fiction… so at the end of March, I was abducted by aliens. For the purpose of this post, aliens refer to the pandemic.
I was absolutely useless for the first 10 years of the pandemic. (It’s been that long, right?)
I went into lock down with a plan to be turn out books like KISS turned out records in the seventies. I took on the philosophy that I had this extra time. I also had four books plotted. Great, I thought. I can get these books written and give myself some padding for future releases.
It didn’t work out that way. I spent the first seven years of lock down searching for inspiration to write. That’s just an author’s fancy way of saying procrastinating. But it goes deeper. I tried an experiment of writing multiple books at the same time. I liken it to Van Halen bringing Gary Cherone on to front the band. On paper, it looks like it could work, but in reality, it’s a dumpster fire.
I spent days bouncing between the stories, never getting traction on any of them. I applaud writers who can work on multiple books at once. Apparently, I’m not one of them. Finally, it became a game to me. I wrote on each story until one deemed itself the alpha. It’s an ode to seventies’ slasher superstars Michael Myers and Jason Vorhees. The plan is to release it on 2/14/21.
The follow-up to THE NIGHT CALLS and the next installment in THE GREAT DYING are in the pipeline. I’ll be working with my friend Tracy Sharp on the fourth Intruders book soon. We released INTRUDERS: DECEPTION earlier this year.
Fun Fact: It took nearly as long for us between Intruders releases as it did between Def Leppard’s “Pyromania” and “Hysteria.” For those who hate math, that’s four years.
We promise not to wait that long again. I hope to have it drafted by January.
So, now that I have my mojo back, the next few months will be exciting. I hope you come along for the ride.
